SCR electrifies third railway line from Manubolu to Gudur
The section between Vijayawada and Gudur on the SCR, connecting northern and eastern parts of Andhra Pradesh with southern states
VIJAYAWADA: Giving major thrust to infrastructural activity across the South Central Railway(SCR) zone, a critical 7.4 km section between Manubolu and Gudur in Andhra Pradesh has been completed. The SCR has been focusing on doubling and tripling projects, with progress being made on the Vijayawada-Gudur tripling project.
According to the SCR, "The section between Vijayawada and Gudur on the SCR, connecting northern and eastern parts of Andhra Pradesh with southern states, is becoming congested due to increasing passenger and freight trains."
"Tripling of 127 km of railway line between Gudur and Singarayakonda, along with electrification, would improve train operations and decongest saturated routes like the Grand Trunk route. The Vijayawada- Gudur third Line Project, sanctioned in 2015-16 for 288 km at a cost of Rs 3,246 crore, is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited to decongest this crucial section," it added.
"Work has been completed and commissioned successfully in 120 km of sections between Ulavapadu and Manubolu and 44 km between Chirala and Karavadi. The critical section between Manubolu and Gudur, located at the southernmost end of the zone, has been completed, electrifying 171 km of the total section," the SCR added.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, hailed the Vijayawada Division and RVNL officials for completing tripling and electrification works between Manubolu and Gudur sections. He emphasised the priority of the third line works, aiming to ease congestion and improve train operations.
