HYDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) has been fined Rs. 50,000 for unscientific pruning at HITEC City railway station.

Gopathi Prathima, Forest Range Officer (FRO/Chilkur range), imposed the fine after receiving a complaint from social activist Vinay Vanga regarding the cutting of tree branches without proper permission from the concerned forest department.

FRO Gopathi Prathima, along with A. Srikanth, Forest Section Officer Kothaguda Section, inspected the site and found that 13 tree branches had been cut at the railway station premises in HITEC City, Sherlingampally.

Forest Range Officer Gopathi Prathima said, "We issued a notice to South Central Railway (SCR), and after receiving the notice, they approached the forest department. We counseled them about the importance of greenery and issued a Preliminary Offence Report (POR) with a compounding fee of Rs. 50,000."

Vinay Vangala, the complainant, said, "As part of the Hitech City Railway Station development program, old trees were chopped in the name of pruning. We informed the forest department, and they served notices and penalised the violators.''
