Serial killer nabbed by Mailardevpally police, detect 3 cases of murder for gain

HYDERABAD: The crime wing of Mailardevpally Police Station of Cyberabad Commissionerate have apprehended a notorious serial killer Byagari Praveen on Thursday and detected three unknown murder for gain cases.

Byagari Praveen hails from Rajivgruhakalpa, Laxmiguda of Maialrdevpally and he is a habitual property offender. Previously he was involved in eight cases, of which one was a murder for gain-cum-rape, one was murder for gain, another was murder, another was a robbery, two were housebreaking by night and two were snatching. All crimes were committed in Rajendranagar police station limits.

B.Praveen along with co-accused Shaik Fayaz and Darga Naresh committed rape and killed a woman by slitting her throat and had stolen her belongings.

The trial court sentenced the accused persons to life imprisonment on June 6, 2014.

Presently, Praveen was released from the jail on court orders about eight months back and was residing at Rajiv Gruhakalpa, Laxmiguda, Maialrdevpally.

In another case, Praveen was charged with targeting an unknown male beggar at Pillar No. 127, Hyderguda, Attapur, Rajendranagar and killing him by smashing his head with a boulder while he was sleeping on the pavement. He was, however, acquitted on June 6, 2014.

In another case, he was charged with killing P.Prakash of Budwel, by smashing his head with a boulder when he was sleeping on the pavement and stealing away his belongings. This case was acquitted on the same day.

He was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment. In two housebreaking cases, he was convicted with eight months of imprisonment in each. In another, he was awarded an RI of four months. He was sentenced to two years RI each in two snatching cases.

The police said that the modus operandi of Praveen was to roam near main roads and streets during the late-night hours in order to target the persons sleeping on footpaths with an intention to rob their belongings. By roaming so, he selects targets and accomplishes his evil designs by smashing the heads of the persons in deep sleep on the pavements with granite stones and steals away their belongs.

After release from the jail, Praveen resorted to committing murders of pavement dwellers.

The police were astonished to detect that Praveen had killed a person by bludgeoning a sleeping person at Netajinagar railway track in the intervening night of June 6 and 7 and stole away some cash from him.

After committing this murder, he decided to kill a footpath dweller on intervening night of June 20 and 21 near Swapna theatre The unidentified victim was a male around 35-40 years of age and was sleeping at Kajaria Tiles shop on steps of Shop shutters. Though he had killed the person, no belongings couldn’t be taken as the victim didn’t possess any.

On the same night, the accused person while moving near Durganagar X road, found one person sleping in front of road side temporary shed under mosquito net. Praveen went near that person and smashed his head with a boulder. After confirming of the death, he stole away some amount from the deceased.
