HYDERABAD: The Telangana Labour Department, on the request of the Odisha state Chief Secretary, has rescued as many as seven minor girls sexually assaulted by brick kiln owners and other workers working at Darga Thanda in Narayankhed mandal of Sangareddy district.

As many as 54 migrant workers from Odisha were working at a brick kiln owned by Ammgoth Paramesh, Amgoth Shankar, Ramesh, and Gangaram. The workers were ill-treated as the owners did not pay the agreed wages to the workers and did not provide proper food and water.

The owners of the brick kiln were harassing the minor girls sexually.

Fed up with the harassment of the owners, the migrant workers contacted the Chief Secretary of Odisha state with the help of relatives and sought help. The Odisha Chief Secretary, in turn, informed the Telangana Labour Department officials asking to help the girls.

On the advice of Joint Commissioner R Chandrasekharam, Child Protection Officer, the Department of Labour officials raided the brick kiln and shifted the seven victims to the Sakhi centre in Sangareddy and took steps to shift the 47 other workers to Odisha state.

Meanwhile, the Narayankhed police registered cases under various sections for hiring minors for work and harassing them on the complaint from Childline social activists. Further investigation is on.
