Slapgate: YS Sharmila granted bail, YS Vijayalakshmi blasts BRS govt

HYDERABAD: YSRTP President YS Sharmila was granted a conditional bail by a Nampally court on Tuesday. The court asked her to submit two sureties worth Rs 30,000 each and directed to seek its permission, if she wanted to travel abroad.

Y S Sharmila was arrested by the police on Monday after she slapped a Sub-Inspector and a woman police constable near her Lotus Pond residence in Jubilee Hills. A case was registered against her under sections 332, 353, 407 and 509 of the IPC. She was produced in a court on Monday night and was remanded to a 14-day judicial custody following which she was shifted to the Chanchalguda jail.

Sharmila’s mother YS Vijayalakshmi on Tuesday met her daughter at the Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad and expressed solidarity to her. She took a dig at the BRS government in Telangana saying that the government was suppressing the voices of those working for the people and slammed the police for their rude behaviour.

Alleging that the State government failed to deliver in all aspects and hence creating hurdles for the opposition parties in their fight for the cause of the unemployed youth, YS Vijayalakshmi questioned the government if her daughter was a criminal, warranting her arrest. She said that the people were watching the atrocities of the government and would teach a befitting lesson in the coming days.

The former honorary president of YSRCP recalled that her daughter had completed 3,800 kilometres of padayatra and had been fighting for the 30-lakh unemployed youths in the state. She wondered why the State government was scared when her daughter tried to meet SIT officials to seek the details of the TSPSC paper leakage probe.

Asserting that YS Sharmila would not be rattled by the arrest, YS Vijayalakshmi said that her daughter would come out of jail and continue her fight against the State government until justice was done to the unemployed youth. She warned that the government would face the ire of the people if it continued to arrest people who were raising their voice against its failures.

On this occasion, YS Vijayalakshmi also advised the media not to telecast false news. She asked the people to maintain restraint and not to resort to any untoward incidents.
