South Central Railway introduces QR code payment option for general ticket purchases
The facility is available at 14 significant stations in Secunderabad Division, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kazipet, Begumpet, Warangal, Mancherial, Lingampalli, Hitech city, James Street
HYDERABAD: South Central Railway has introduced an additional facility for purchasing tickets through QR (Quick Response) codes at General booking counters, aiming to encourage cashless transactions and boost digital payments.
This initiative eliminates the need for carrying cash and exact change while enabling passengers to instantly procure general tickets. In the initial phase, this service is being piloted at 31 counters across 14 stations in the Secunderabad division of South Central Railway.
Fare repeaters are installed at General booking counters in key stations, positioned outside the ticket window, displaying essential details entered by the ticket issuing clerk. Passengers can verify these details for accuracy and transparency, including origin and destination stations, class, number of adults/children, and fare.
Furthermore, a Quick Response (QR) code is generated after fare calculation, displayed on the fare repeaters. Passengers can scan this code using payment apps on their mobile phones. Upon confirmation of payment receipt, the ticket is generated and issued.
This cashless transaction option is initially available at 31 counters in 14 significant stations of Secunderabad Division, including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kazipet, Begumpet, Warangal, Mancherial, Lingampalli, Hitech city, James Street, Mahabubabad, Bellampalli, Fatehnagar Bridge, Sirpur Kagaznagar, and Vikarabad.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of SCR, commended the Commercial and Technical Staff for introducing this digital payment option at General counters. He urged all rail users to utilise this opportunity, which facilitates purchasing general tickets without the hassle of handling currency or tendering exact change.
