Southwest monsoon advances in North Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Telangana: IMD
Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rains with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few days
HYDERABAD: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into parts of North Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, and Telangana on June 11, 2024.
Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rains with the possibility of heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few days. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also forecasted for certain districts in the state until June 13, 2024.
Currently, the northern limit of the Southwest monsoon extending to Akola, Pusad, Ramagundam, and Vizianagaram. Over the next 48 hours, it is expected to extend to other parts of Telangana state.
The Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through specific coordinates including 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/63°E, 20.5°N/70°E, and various regions such as Navsari, Jalgaon, Akola, Pusad, Ramagundam, Sukma, Malkangiri, and Vizianagaram.
Favorable conditions are anticipated for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into additional parts of Telangana and Chhattisgarh within the next 48 hours.
Low-level winds blowing from the west and southwest direction toward Telangana state are expected on Tuesday. Consequently, Telangana state may experience light to moderate rainfall in many areas on both June 11 and June 12, with light to moderate precipitation in a few places.
Over the next two days, heavy rains are forecasted intermittently, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusts of 30 to 40 kph. Some districts of the state may experience rains with gusty winds of m speed.

June 11 (Yellow Alert): Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in districts including KomaramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal in Telangana.
June 12 (Yellow Alert): Thunderstorms with rain, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected at isolated places in districts such as Adilabad, KomaramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal in Telangana.
June 13 (Yellow Alert): Thunderstorms with rain, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected at isolated places in districts including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, and Medak in Telangana.
