Telangana Drugs Control Administration raids clinic run by fake MBBS Doctor in Secunderabad
Drugs worth Rs. 1.60 lakhs were seized during the raid
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a raid on Vayu Clinic in Secunderabad on Friday, uncovering a fraudulent operation run by an individual falsely claiming to be an MBBS doctor. Drugs worth Rs. 1.60 lakhs were seized during the raid.
According to the Telangana DCA, Pullagurla Venkateshwar Reddy, operating as a quack, deceived the public by posing as an MBBS doctor. Officials discovered fake doctor stamps and prescription books bearing counterfeit registration numbers at the clinic.
A police case has been filed against Pullagurla Venkateshwar Reddy under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Tukaramgate Police Station for cheating and fraudulent practices. Acting on credible information, DCA officials raided Vayu Clinic on May 2 and May 3, 2024. Pullagurla Venkateshwar Reddy falsely advertised himself as an MBBS doctor, practicing medicine without proper qualifications, and deceiving the public.
During the raid, officials found large quantities of medicines stocked at the premises without a drug license, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, and anti-ulcer drugs. Additionally, medicines intended for Indian Railways Supply were also seized. The DCA lodged a complaint at the Tukaramgate police station regarding the fraudulent practice of claiming to be an MBBS doctor and deceiving the public.
The clinic also stocked higher-generation ‘antibiotic injections’ and ‘steroids,’ posing severe risks to public health. DCA officers lifted samples for analysis, and further investigation will be conducted.
Wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unqualified individuals without a drug license will face stringent legal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The Drugs Control Administration reminds the public to report any complaints regarding illegal drug activities through their Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
