Telangana Food Safety Task Force uncovers multiple violations at Kukatpally hotels

HYDERABAD: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Task Force conducted inspections on Sunday at Jampanas Vaarahi Hotel, Sri Lakshmi Grand Udupi Hotel, and Shree Raghavendra Bhavan hotels in Kukatpally and Balanagar.

The task force found several violations at these establishments, including rotten and damaged carrots, cobwebs in the kitchen, expired food items, and absence of medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records.

Jampanas Vaarahi Hotel, Kukatpally

The food business operator (FBO) was found operating with a registration certificate despite falling under the license category due to turnover. Frozen chicken was improperly stored, not meeting temperature requirements as labeled.

Some food handlers were observed without headgear, gloves, and aprons. Proper insect-proof screens were not installed to prevent pests, and kitchen doors were not properly fitted. The second kitchen was exposed to external elements without adequate coverage against dust and flies.

Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records were unavailable.

Sri Lakshmi Grand Udupi Hotel, Beside BBR Hospital, Balanagar

The FBO was found operating without a valid license. Rotten and damaged carrots were immediately discarded. Ready-to-cook packed parathas lacked proper labeling.

Cobwebs were found above the grinding area, and overall premises cleanliness was inadequate. Some food handlers were seen without proper attire. Insect-proof screens were missing, and kitchen doors were not properly sealed. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were also absent.

Shree Raghavendra Bhavan, Alluri Trade Centre, Kukatpally

The FBO was found operating with an expired license (expired in December 2023). Expired packed papads were discarded on-site, and Maharaja Brand Chopra (10 kg) lacked manufacturing and use-by dates, resulting in the seizure of stock.

Several food handlers were without required protective gear. Insect-proof screens were absent, and the kitchen was found in unhygienic conditions with water stagnation. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were missing. Refrigerator storage was improper, with food items lacking labels and coverage.
