Telangana Food Safety team uncovers violations at multiple restaurants in Khammam, Rangareddy

HYDERABAD: The Task Force team of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted inspections at several restaurants in Rangareddy district and Khammam district in Telangana State on Monday.

During the raids, the food safety team found violations at Taaza All Day Breakfast in Medchal, Train Theme restaurant in Kompally, and Prism Restaurant and Bar in Vattinagulapally.

Taaza All Day Breakfast in Medchal

The team discovered violations such as food colors stored in their storeroom, which were immediately discarded. They also found vegetables and lemons of poor quality, deemed unfit for consumption, and promptly discarded by the food safety team. Additionally, Dalchini found in the storeroom was not in proper condition, there was a lack of medical records for handlers, unlabelled tea powder, and infested foxtail millet at Taaza All Day Breakfast in Medchal district. The restaurant had also not initiated a pest control program.

Train Theme Restaurant, Kompally

The food safety team found infested cashew stock, stale cauliflower, and onions in bad condition, as well as a blockage of water in the sink at Train Theme restaurant in Kompally. Statutory samples were collected and sent to the lab.

Prism Restaurant and Bar in Vattinagulapally

Inspecting Prism Restaurant and Bar in Vattinagulapally, the food safety team found violations including expired food items, rat feces in the storeroom, substandard vegetables stored for an extended period in the refrigerator, stagnant water, and foul smells observed in the kitchen.

Rest Inn Khammam

Special teams conducted inspections in Khammam District on May 26, 2024, and found violations at Rest Inn restaurant. Synthetic food colors were used in food preparation, and color-coated and spoiled Tandoori chicken, marinated chicken, fried chicken, and chicken kebab were discarded. Improperly labeled coconut powder (6.5kg), noodles (30.5kg), and unlabeled turmeric powder (60kg) were seized.

Semi-prepared and raw food articles were improperly stored in the refrigerator without proper labeling and covering. Food handlers were found without haircaps, gloves, and aprons, and medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records were not found. Water analysis reports for RO water being used were also unavailable.

High Spirit restaurant, Bypass Road, Khammam

The team found usage of synthetic food colors, and improperly labeled dry fruits saunf (5kg) and coconut powder (5kg) were seized. Substandard quality chili was also seized, and samples were sent to the lab.
