Telangana Government suspends Shiva Balakrishna following arrest by ACB

HYDERABAD: Four days after his apprehension by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a disproportionate assets case, the Telangana Government decided to suspend Shiva Balakrishna, Chief General Manager (Land Management) at Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, and Incharge Secretary of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority.
Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Dana Kishore, issued the suspension orders.
In a GO issued on January 29, Dana Kishore conveyed that the ACB registered a case against Balakrishna under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended in 2018) on January 23. The ACB also reported that simultaneous searches were conducted during the investigation at Balakrishna's residence in Aditya Fort View, Secretariat Colony, Puppalagadda, Rajendra Nagar, RR District, and 14 other locations belonging to his relatives, close associates, and suspected benamis. The searches extended to the Office of the AO and bank records. The operation uncovered several incriminating documents related to assets registered in the name of Shiva Balakrishna and his family members, relatives, close associates, and suspected benamis.

Additionally, cash amounting to Rs. 84.60 lakh and gold ornaments weighing approximately one kilogram and 800 grams were seized. The investigations revealed that Shiva Balakrishna possesses assets valued at Rs. 8.26 crore, with disproportionate assets amounting to Rs. 7.62 crore.
Shiva Balakrishna was arrested on January 24 and presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases in Hyderabad the following day. Ongoing investigations are being conducted.
Following a thorough examination of the matter, the State Government has opted to suspend Balakrishna from his services.
