Three in Hyderabad family successfully treated for Kidney Stones at AINU
Dr. Ragoori advised parents to schedule regular check-ups for their children and recommended periodic follow-ups for those diagnosed with \stones
HYDERABAD: In a rare occurrence, three members of the same family in Hyderabad suffered from kidney stones and underwent successful operations at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU).
Dr. Deepak Ragoori, Senior Consultant Urologist at AINU, explained the case, stating that while kidney stones are common, it's unusual to see a father and his two sons experiencing the same issue. The father and elder son had previously undergone surgeries, while the younger son, aged nine, recently developed kidney stones requiring emergency surgery. Although we can't definitively attribute it to inheritance, it's essential to be vigilant when similar issues occur within the family.
Dr. Ragoori advised parents to schedule regular check-ups for their children and recommended periodic follow-ups for those diagnosed with stones. A comprehensive metabolic evaluation is crucial to identify any treatable causes in this age group. It's important to note that we cannot impose food restrictions on children as they are still growing and require a variety of nutrients. Additionally, children often engage in physical activities and may not consume enough water.
If your child has been diagnosed with kidney stones, seek medical advice and ensure regular follow-ups. With appropriate medical intervention, conditions like excessive uric acid production or calcium deposits caused by parathyroid hormone imbalance can be effectively treated.
