Thunderstorms, rain bring relief from heatwave; yellow warning for five days in Telangana
Light to moderate thunderstorms and rain, with maximum surface wind speeds less than 40 kmph, occurred at isolated places across Telangana
HYDERABAD: After a week of intense heat and sweltering temperatures, Telangana State experienced relief from heatwaves as thunderstorms and rain swept across the State.
Intense thunderstorms were observed across Medak, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and parts of North and West Hyderabad on Sunday evening. Telangana Weatherman T Balaji said significant rainfall in Warangal, Hanmakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, and Bhadradri were observed on Sunday.
Thunder clouds entered the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, resulting in moderate rains and gusty winds in locations including Kapra, Malkangiri, Secunderabad, and Khairtabad, as well as several other parts of Hyderabad.
Light to moderate thunderstorms and rain, with maximum surface wind speeds less than 40 kmph, occurred at isolated places over B. Kothagudem, Hyderabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, M. Malkajgiri, Mulugu, Narayanpet, Nizamabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, and Y. Bhuvanagiri.
Moderate rain and thunderstorms, with maximum surface wind speeds between 41-61 kmph (in gusts), occurred at isolated places over Jangaon, J. Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Medak, Peddapalle, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Warangal, and Hanamkonda.
Telangana Weatherman T Balaji said, "Most of North Hyderabad is experiencing intense rains now, which will further cover West and Central parts as marked in the map. This will be the perfect respite now, with more rain on the way."
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms for the next five days in many parts of the State.

May 2 (Yellow): Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
May 3 (Yellow): Thunderstorms with rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komarambheem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
May 4 (Yellow): Heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
May 5 (Yellow): Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 KMPH) are very likely to occur at isolated places in all districts of Telangana.
