TSRTC introduces 22 eco-friendly Electric Green Metro Express buses in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: For the first time in Telangana, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has introduced eco-friendly non-AC Electric Green Metro Express buses in Hyderabad.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off 22 Electric Green Metro Express buses at the Ambedkar statue on NTR Marg on Tuesday.
The 12-meter-long buses, featuring ergonomically designed 2×2 seating for 35 passengers along with the driver, can travel up to 225 kilometers on a single charge. Additionally, these buses offer full charging within three to four hours and provide onboard cell phone charging facilities.
These e-buses operate entirely on electricity, emitting zero emissions, while front and rear air suspension ensures optimal comfort during travel. LED destination display boards are installed on the front, left, and rear sides for easy navigation.
Additionally, security cameras are equipped in both the cabin and saloon with a one-month backup, along with an E.1 reverse parking assist camera and a fire detection and alarming system (FDAS). The vehicle also features provisions for a vehicle tracking system, panic buzzer, and cell charging public addressing system.
TSRTC for pollution free e-Mobility Public Transport
To provide pollution-free e-mobility, TSRTC is operating 8,577 schedules with 9,067 eco-friendly buses covering 32.33 lakh KMs duly transporting around 47.10 lakh passengers daily.
TSRTC operated 40 AC e-buses from various locations of Hyderabad to RGI Airport since March 2019 from Cantonment and Miyapur-2 depots, transporting around 5,000 passengers daily.
TSRTC signed an agreement with M/s. Evey Trans (TEL) P Ltd. to deploy 50 12M Intra-city AC eBuses under the GCC model for a 12-year period at a rate of Rs. 6 per kilometer, along with 450 non-AC eBuses at a rate of Rs. 57.90 per kilometer.

About 10 e-Garuda buses are in operation from May 17, 2023, on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. About 25 Green Metro Luxury AC eBuses are in operation from September 21, 2023, on Rajiv Gandhi International Air Port and IT corridor routes.
The second lot of 25 vehicles is ready for operation and the remaining 450 buses will be released by August 2024. TSRTC aimed to induct a total of 1,050 e-buses in a phased manner from FY 2023-24 to FY 2024-25 to provide pollution-free e-mobility in Telangana.
