HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has asked the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates to focus on handling traffic issues in Greater Hyderabad. Conducting a review meeting on Wednesday, Revanth said that traffic management within the city should be given top priority by the police. He asked the police to recruit adequate number of home guards within the next three months to overcome shortage of traffic personnel.
"Home guards working in different departments should be immediately brought back to traffic department. Immediately use their services for traffic control duties. Additionally, law and order police should be deployed for traffic control duties in the city during peak hours," Revanth said.
The Chief Minister asked officials to upgrade the existing traffic police stations reorganise its personnel to ensure adequate staffing.
"There should be focus on expansion of roads and junctions in the city, look out for possibilities for construction of subways, underpasses and surface way on the lines of LB Nagar junction where traffic movement is high," Revanth said.
Arrangements should be made for physical presence of traffic personnel on all junctions and high density traffic areas within the city limits instead of relying on automatic signalling system, he added.
"Police officers of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates along with municipal zonal commissioners should review traffic problems once a month and look for measures to be taken to overcome them," the Chief Minister said.
Revanth Reddy also said that construction of multi-level car parking centers should be encouraged to overcome parking problems in the city. A special parking policy should be formulated for that, he said.
