Union Defence Secretary urges swift excision of civil areas from Cantonment, Hyderabad
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari assured that the state government will collaborate closely with the central government to expedite the process
HYDERABAD: Union Defence Secretary A. Giridhar held a video conference on Tuesday with senior officials from various state governments to discuss the process of excising civil areas from cantonment limits and integrating them into Municipalities.
He urged state government officials to expedite the excision of civil areas within cantonments promptly, emphasising the union government's commitment to abolishing cantonment boards, which are vestiges of British colonial rule in India.
confirmed that the state government has already agreed to the union government's proposal to excise civil areas from the Secunderabad cantonment board and merge them with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). She emphasised the state government's eagerness to complete this process swiftly.
However, she noted that the central government committee tasked with finalizing the removal modalities for civil areas has not yet shared its report with the state government. She assured that the state government will collaborate closely with the central government to expedite the process.
Principal Secretary MAUD Danakishore, along with officials from municipal administration and the cantonment board, participated in the video conference.
