Upgradation of Tirupati railway station to be completed by February 2025
A new station building would be built on the south side of the existing station building as part of the station upgrade
TIRUPATI: The upgradation work at Tirupati Railway Station is proceeding at a brisk pace and is scheduled to be completed by February 2025, according to South Central Railway (SCR).
The renovation work was granted under the EPC process, and once completed, the improved station would have world-class facilities and services, as well as an exquisite appearance and ambiance.
A new station building would be built on the south side of the existing station building as part of the station upgrade. While the basement floor has been fully cast, 200 columns have been elevated to the first floor level and another 100 columns have been hoisted to the second floor level.
While the basement would be reserved for vehicle parking, the ground level would house the departure concourse, arrival concourse, ticket counter, and waiting lounge. Similarly, the first and second floors would include a common waiting hall, a female waiting area, a food court, toilets, and a cloak room, among other amenities.
The foundations for the underground tank with a capacity of 29 lakh litres were additionally developed. Water recycling and sewage treatment systems would be built at Tirupati railway station to make better use of the available water. The recycled water would be used for outside coach washing, landscaping, and other purposes. Excavation work for a sewage treatment facility with a capacity of 24 lakh litres per day was successfully completed, and 70 percent of the foundations for the same were completed.
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR said that redevelopment works of Tirupati Railway station were being monitored at all levels so as to complete the work in stipulated time. He also instructed the staff to be more vigilant and more careful in the course of execution of the works. He said, that once the renovation works are completed, pilgrim passengers coming to the station would be able to avail world-class amenities with aesthetically designed façade and interiors.
