HYDERABAD: YSR Telangana Party President YS Sharmila was on Monday arrested after she manhandled a Sub-Inspector on duty and behaved rudely with other police personnel near her Lotus Pond residence in Jubilee Hills of Hyderabad. She was later shifted to Jubilee Hills police station and a case has been registered against her at the Banjara Hills Police Station. The incident, visuals of which quickly became viral, happened when she was obstructed from going out of her residence by a team of police personnel that included some women constables.
YS Sharmila became furious and lost her cool when she was stopped by the police team from venturing out of her residence. Defying the curbs, she began walking out of her house and onto the road. At one time, she even allegedly asked her car driver to ram the vehicle into the police personnel. When the police persistently prevented her from moving out, she angrily questioned them on what basis she was being restricted and why she was being confined to her house.
Losing her cool, she was seen in the videos pushing and manhandling Sub-Inspector Ravinder and a woman police constable. The YSRTP chief later launched into an impromptu sit-in for a while, protesting against the police action. Following a heated argument, she was arrested and shifted to the Jubilee Hills police station, amid noisy protests from the YSRTP activists. The incident caused mild tension in the vicinity of Lotus Pond area in Jubilee Hills.
The rude behaviour and overbearing attitude of YS Sharmila evoked condemnation and sharp criticism. Netizens began questioning if the police would ignore the same behaviour had it come from a common man. They wondered what would be the plight of a lesser mortal even if he had touched policemen on duty accidentally.
