HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Realme Mobile Telecommunications (India) Pvt Ltd to refund Rs. 15,499 for inconvenience and loss incurred by a Hyderabad consumer.

Manu Priya, a 22-year-old student and Shankarpally resident, ordered a Realme GT Master Edition phone. The actual cost of the mobile phone was Rs. 25,999, however after exchanging his old Redmi Note 5 Pro worth Rs. 7,750, the complainant paid Rs. 18,249 for the phone.

The phone was delivered on November 25, 2021, as a gift from Manu Priya's brother. The phone had a one-year warranty, but by May 2022, it began to malfunction. Manu Priya submitted complaints twice, once on May 9, 2022, and again on November 13, 2022. She also gave her phone for repair, which was refused by the service center on December 3, 2022.

Manu Priya filed a complaint with the Consumer Court, demanding compensation for loss and hardship, as well as a refund of Rs. 10,499 plus court fees. Realme provided their written version, refuting Manu Priya's allegations that she filed this false complaint.

They further confessed that Manu Priya began having troubles after six months of purchase on May 5, 2022; the technical team repaired a battery backup issue. She then experienced hanging issues, which were addressed by the support center. On November 12, 2022, Manu Priya visited the service facility requesting a motherboard replacement after experiencing display hanging, battery backup, and auto-calling issues, which the service center denied. Realme requested that the Commission dismiss the complaint on the same day that the device was out of warranty.

The court ruled that Realme, as the manufacturer, is responsible for assuring the quality of their product and is liable for any inconvenience or damage caused to Manu Priya. The court ordered Realme to refund Rs. 10,499 and pay compensation of Rs. 5,000, and litigation costs of Rs. 5,000 within 45 days of receiving the order.
