WARANGAL: Barely a week after a ceiling fan fell on a student at Kakatiya University (KU) hostel in Warangal, another incident raised serious concerns about students' safety.

A large portion of a roof slab collapsed in a room at the Pothana Women's Hostel late at night. Fortunately, the room was empty then, averting a potential tragedy.

However, the incident sparked outrage among students, who complained that living in the hostel felt like risking their lives. They alleged that despite repeated complaints to the university authorities about the dilapidated condition of the building, no action had been taken. Students confronted the hostel warden, demanding immediate action to ensure their safety.

The incident also triggered a protest, with students gathering outside the Rani Rudrama Devi Hostel and confronting Registrar Mallar Reddy, who was present for an inspection. They accused the administration of neglecting the hostels and engaged in a heated argument with the official, demanding his resignation.

This latest incident follows a similar one on June 29, where a ceiling fan fell on a first-year postgraduate student, Lunawat Sandhya, at the university's women's hostel. The student suffered a severe head injury and had to be hospitalised.
