HYDERABAD: Sub-inspector Sriramulu Srinu, who attempted suicide last week due to alleged harassment by his colleagues, died early Sunday morning.

Srinu, stationed at Ashwaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, passed away at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad. He had attempted suicide by consuming insecticide last Sunday in Mahabubabad.

Residing in the quarters adjacent to the Aswaraopeta Police Station, Srinu arrived at the station in plain clothes on the morning of June 30. He left in a private car and was found abandoned in the Tirumalakunta forest area after 1:30 pm. His colleagues tracked his phone, which had been switched off, and discovered him in the suburbs of the Mahabubabad district centre, where he had consumed the insecticide. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Later, he was shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment. However, he succumbed in the early hours of Sunday.

SI Srinu is survived by his wife, a seven-year-old daughter, and a five-year-old son.

In his dying declaration, Srinu allegedly accused CI Jitender Reddy and constables Sanyasi Naidu, Shekhar, Subhani, and Shiva Nagaraju of driving him to suicide through persistent harassment.

Following a complaint by his wife, Krishnaveni, police registered a case under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against CI Jitender Reddy and constables Sanyasi Naidu, Subhani, Shekhar, and Shiva Nagaraju.
