HYDERABAD: A habitual burglar was nabbed for the third time and about 21 tulas of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakhs were seized by Bahadurpura police on Thursday.
Syed Majeed, the culprit who burgled a house in Kishanbagh, Hyderabad, on January 20, 2019, was apprehended by Bahadurpura police based on a complaint filed in the year 2019.
The victim, Patangay Ghanshyam, and his family were away when the accused allegedly burgled his house, the police said. The victim's family discovered when they returned from their trip that some unidentified individuals had broken their door lock and stolen gold ornaments, each weighing about 17 tulas, from an almirah.
A case was subsequently registered and the Bahadurgarh police began their investigation. Two FIRs were filed: one for Crime No. 90/2019 U/s 457, 380 IPC of Chatrinaka PS, which was based on the suspect's confession, and the other for Crime No. 16/2019 U/s 457, 380 IPC of Bahadurpura PS.
Syed Majeed confessed that he had previously been involved in 68 burglary incidents within the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda limits. The Hyderabad police arrested him twice in accordance with the PD Act.
He was detained again by the Tappachabutra Police in 2019, but during his confession, he withheld information about the two offences he committed in the Bahadurpura and Chatrinaka regions.
He stored the ornaments at his house to get rid of them upon his release from the jail.
The accused was once again taken into custody by the Bahadurpura police on Thursday and is now being brought before the court for judicial remand.
