Conman arrested for duping job aspirant for Rs. 2.50 lakh in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cyber Crimes Police Station's Team-5 has arrested an individual who deceived a victim by offering a job at a multinational company (MNC) and luring him into transferring money.

According to the complaint filed by Pavan Kumar, he received a call from his friend Goutham, who informed him about a job opportunity at an MNC through the reference of Seetaiah. Seetaiah had met Pavan during a trip to Vijayawada via a carpooling application called BLA BLA. Seetaiah, who introduced himself as a senior employee at "Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd," offered Pavan the position of Business Intelligence Analyst on a payment basis. Seetaiah lured Pavan into transferring Rs 2,50,000 to his Google Pay account by sending him a fake offer letter from Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd. When Pavan inquired about his job at the company, he was informed that the offer letter was fake. After realizing he was cheated, Pavan filed a complaint with the police.

The accused, K Seetaiah, is a resident of Bachupally, Hyderabad. He had cleared the mains examinations for the Civil Service Examinations in 2019 and 2020 but failed to secure a job. Seetaiah later became addicted to online gaming and lost considerable money. With no income source, he decided to earn money through illegal means. He introduced himself as a senior Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd employee while carpooling and offered job vacancies in the company on a chargeable basis. He charged Rs 2,50,000 per person and confirmed their job by sending fake offer letters mentioning a joining date after two months. When the victims went to Ericsson Global India Pvt Ltd to inquire about their jobs, they were informed that the offer letter was fake. Seetaiah stopped responding to them afterwards.

The accused is involved in six other cases across Hyderabad for cheating unemployed youth in the guise of offering employment.

The case was cracked by a team headed by Inspector P Pramod Kumar under the direct supervision of DCP D Kavitha.
