Cyber criminal dupes Hyderabad man of Rs 20 lakh posing as Mumbai police

HYDERABAD: A young man from Hyderabad has fallen prey to a cyber criminal who impersonated himself as a Mumbai Cyber Crime Police officer.

According to information, the fraudster contacted the victim and falsely claimed that the parcels he had received contained prohibited items, coercing him into believing that a case had been registered against him.

The criminal, donning a police uniform during the conversation conducted over Skype, scared the victim and demanded a substantial sum of money to resolve the case.

The victim succumbed to the pressure and transferred a staggering amount of Rs 19.95 lakhs to the fraudster. However, upon realising that he had fallen prey to a scam, the victim lodged a complaint with the local police station seeking justice.
