ELURU: A kidney racket came to light in Eluru after a woman, who sold her organ to a racketeer, felt cheated and approached the police for help.
According to reports, the victim, a widow hailing from the Eluru One Town area, who was under financial distress, approached a person named Prasad for help. Looking to exploit her, Prasad convinced the woman to sell her kidney for Rs 7 lakh.
Trusting Prasad, the woman gave away one of her kidneys and was paid only Rs 5 lakh. The mother of the victim came to know about the racket after the woman fell sick and her health began deteriorating.
The victim is believed to have parted with her kidney after she became ineligible for the benefits of the State Government schemes due to the change of surname in her Aadhar card.
Based on the information given by the victim, the Eluru One Town police began investigating the allegations.
