A garment shop owner was duped of Rs 73,000 by an unidentified youth in the guise of making a UPI payment at Kanchikacherla of NTR district
KANCHIKACHERLA: A garment shop owner was duped of Rs 73,000 by an unidentified youth in the guise of making a UPI payment at Kanchikacherla of NTR district.
An unidentified youth visited the victim's shop in Kanchikacherla and purchased 15 towels and 15 dothis. However, the youth told the owner that his uncle would pay the bill through UPI and asked him to transfer Rs 1 from Phonepe for the confirmation of the bank account.
As the shop owner has no idea about UPI payments, he gave his smartphone to the youth to carry out the transaction. But to his shock, the youth quietly transferred Rs 73,000 to his account and fled from the spot.
The garment shop owner, who was initially clueless about the money lost, later realised that the amount was transferred from his account and approached the Kanchikacharla police. The police registered a case and started an inquiry.
