MLA files complaint after receiving nude video call amid cyber fraud spike
A Telangana MLA lodged a complaint after receiving a late-night nude video call, as cyber fraud incidents rise.
HYDERABAD: Cyber fraud cases, particularly involving honey traps and nude video calls, have surged recently, affecting not only the general public but also political leaders. In a recent case, a ruling party MLA from the erstwhile Karimnagar district reported receiving a nude video call, which led him to file a complaint with the Cyber Security Bureau.
The incident took place on the night of October 14, when the MLA received a video call from an unknown number around midnight. Assuming the call might be important due to his role as a public representative, he answered it. To his shock, the screen displayed explicit content, with a woman appearing nude. Disturbed by the call, the MLA immediately disconnected it.
Following the incident, the MLA approached the Cyber Security Bureau in Hyderabad on October 17 to file a formal complaint. Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the source of the number involved. The investigation aims to determine whether this was part of a larger cybercrime scheme or a targeted attempt to defame the MLA through a planned conspiracy.
As cyber fraud continues to rise, the case is being closely monitored by the authorities, who are urging the public to remain vigilant against such scams.
