Narayana Medical College house surgeon dies by suicide in Nellore

NELLORE: A house surgeon at Narayana Medical College died by suicide on the hostel premises in Chintareddypalem of Nellore district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Chaithanya (23), a native of Palasa in Srikakulam district, and was married only two months ago to a person belonging to Vizianagaram district. Chaitanya is learnt to be under distress of late due to disputes with her husband.

According to the police, Chaithanya, as usual, attended college and returned to the hostel in the night. Later, she reportedly had an altercation with her husband over the phone following which she took the extreme step. Chaitanya is also believed to have spoken to her mother in Palasa over the phone and told her that she wanted to end her life as was reportedly unable to bear with her husband.

Chaithanya's mother immediately called up the girl's roommate informing her that daughter was in depression and behaved strangely during the mobile phone conversation. As Chaithanya failed to respond over the phone, one of her roommates went to the room to calm her down an d persuade her from doing anything silly. However, she did not open her room for a long time, prompting the roommate to alert the college authorities. When the staff broke the hostel room doors open, they found Chaithanya hanging by her chunni from the ceiling and in an unconscious state.

She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she breathed her last while undergoing treatment. Upon receiving the information , a team of police personnel rushed to the hostel. They seized Chaithanya's phone and launched an investigation. The preliminary inquiry revealed that Chaitanya died by suicide due to disputes with her husband. A case was registered and further investigations are underway, the police said.
