KHAMMAM: In a significant operation across the erstwhile Khammam district, police seized about 770 kg of ganja in separate incidents.

The Bhadrachalam excise police intercepted 138 kg of dried ganja being transported illegally in a car. Yusuf Shaheed Khan bought the consignment from Mumbai for Rs 2.20 lakh in Odisha. Mohammad Farid from Zaheerabad, who was planning to hand it over to Yusuf, was transporting it to the Karnataka border. Farid was arrested and remanded into custody.

In another incident, Wyra Excise Police seized 8.5 kg of ganja transported in an RTC bus near Pallipadu in Konijerla mandal. During a routine check, three young men carrying bags attempted to evade the police but were caught. Upon inspection, police found ganja in their possession. The three individuals were identified as B.Tech students from Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Additionally, 624 kg of ganja, confiscated in various cases under the Khammam Commissionerate, was destroyed on Monday. The process was conducted under the supervision of Additional DCP Naresh Kumar in the Manchukonda forest area at the police firing range. The ganja, linked to seven cases across different police station jurisdictions, was associated with illegal transportation and sales.
