HYDERABAD: A passenger was arrested by the air intelligence sleuths at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Sunday when he was wandering with one kilogram of smuggled gold, that he sneaked out from the keen eyes of the customs officials.
The passenger who arrived at Hyderabad from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia managed to bring the gold in the shape of gold chains. The air intelligence people found him negotiating with some persons at the parking lot outside the arrival terminal of the airport.
Upon suspicion, they searched the bags of the passenger and found the contraband. They immediately alerted the customs officers and handed him over to them. Customs officials expressed dismay over the way the accused escaped the dragnet of air intelligence in Jeddah as well as Hyderabad. Further details awaited.
