Police seize fake seeds and banned herbicides in Suryapet
Police confiscated 52 kg of fake cotton seeds and 300 litres of banned herbal medicines.
HYDERABAD: The Suryapet Police have seized a significant quantity of fake seeds and banned herbicides in a recent operation.
Acting on a tip-off about the sale of counterfeit cotton seeds, the police conducted raids. They confiscated 52 kg of fake cotton seeds and 300 litres of banned herbal medicines, valued at approximately three lakh rupees. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Hegde disclosed the details during a media conference.
Two individuals, Sankepalli Somireddy (53) and Gugulot Prem Kumar (29), were arrested for selling the fake seeds and banned herbicides. The police have identified two additional suspects who are currently absconding but are expected to be apprehended soon.
In a related operation, police arrested another individual in Koduru village, under the Arvapally police station, and seized 22 kg of fake cotton seeds. Two more suspects in this case are also on the run.
SP Rahul Hegde sternly warned against deceiving farmers by selling fake seeds, stating that such actions will not be tolerated. He emphasised that the PD Act would be enforced against anyone involved in selling or distributing counterfeit seeds.
