Posing as army officials, cybercriminals defraud pharma firm of Rs 25 lakh

HYDERABAD: In an incident where cyber fraudsters stooped as low as impersonating as army officers, a pharma company was duped to the tune of Rs. 25 lakhs in Hyderabad.
The fraudsters approached a Pharma company seeking scanning machines and asked the company management to pay a required amount saying that it is part of Army rules. They collected a total of Rs. 25 lakh in installments.
Not satisfied with the money collected, the fraudsters demanded more money. However, the pharma company officials got suspicious of the incident and lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. The police registered a case and during investigation they founded out that it was a fraud. The police are currently on the lookout for the fraudsters.
In another incident reported at the Hyderabad Cyber Crime department, a government employee was blackmailed by a woman. Reportedly, she made a video call to him on WhatsApp and shot explicit videos. She demanded an amount of Rs. 5 lakh by blackmailing him.
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police are investigating both the cases.
