JANGAON: A pregnant woman from Yadadri district was allegedly denied admission by doctors at the Jangaon Mother and Child Health Centre (MCH), who cited her district of origin as the reason.

The incident involved Shruti, originally from Jangaon, who married Mitta Venu from Bhongir in Yadadri district.

Shruti had been undergoing prenatal check-ups at Jangaon MCH since her fourth month of pregnancy. However, during her final-month visit, when she was accompanied by her mother, the doctors reportedly refused to attend to her. The doctors allegedly questioned why a woman from Yadadri was seeking medical care in Jangaon, insisting that deliveries for patients from other districts were not performed at the centre. They suggested that she seek care at a major hospital within her own district.

Reacting to the incident, the hospital's Superintendent, Dr. Madhusudhan Reddy, clarified that there was no formal policy denying care based on district origin. He explained that the doctors were facing challenges due to a shortage of staff, which sometimes necessitates patients being directed to the nearest available facility. He emphasised that he had instructed the doctors to admit Shruti and provide her with the necessary care.
