TIRUPATI: A case was registered against the Sub-Inspector and a constable of Puthalapattu police station besides four others for allegedly sexually harassing four women belonging to Tamil Nadu.
According to reports, a gang of six including four women hailing from Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu was detained by the Puthalapattu police as part of an investigation in a theft case. The police have remanded two accused Pommadi and Ayyappa in the case and served notices on the four women.
The four women later approached the Krishnagiri police station alleging that the Puthalapattu police were sexually harassing them. With the Krishnagiri police informing Chittoor Superintendent of Police Y Rishanth Reddy of the same, the latter ordered a probe. He directed Nagari Urban Inspector Vasanthi to submit a preliminary report on the accusations by questioning the victims who were undergoing treatment at a Krishnagiri Hospital.
Based on the report submitted by the Nagari Urban Inspector, a case of sexual harassment was registered against Puthalapattu Sub-Inspector Hariprasad, constable Tanikachalam and four others at the Chittoor Two Town Police Station.
Meanwhile, ASP Sudhakar was appointed as the investigating officer to probe the case further.
