School teacher in Guthi gets 3-yr jail term for sexual assault on girl student

ANANTAPUR: The Anantapur District Special POCSO Court has sentenced a school teacher to three years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a class 8 girl student in Guthi in 2022.

According to the prosecution, a teacher, named Salavemula Babu and working at a school in Guthi, tried to sexually assault a class 8 girl student in the classroom itself. However, the victim escaped from Babu and informed her parents about the atrocity. The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the police through the Disha App.

The Disha police registered a case against the accused under Section 354(D), POCSO Act and investigated it thoroughly. A detailed probe report along with evidence was submitted to the Court.

The Special POCSO Court Judge, upon examining the evidence, sentenced accused Salavemula Babu to a three-year imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000.

The victim’s family thanked the Disha Police for taking up their complaint seriously and investigating it thoroughly to punish the accused.
