HYDERABAD: Forest officials have arrested six individuals in connection with the illegal hunting and killing of a sambar deer in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.

According to Amrabad Range Officer Guru Prasad, the incident took place on September 30 in the forested border area near Sarlapalli, where some individuals were reported to have hunted and killed the deer.

Upon receiving the information, forest officials conducted a search operation in the area, which led to the apprehension of six suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Mandli Mallesh, Mandli Chinna Mallayya, Sheelam Eedayya, Gorati Srinu, Arthi Kondalu from Sarlapalli, and Varikuppala Ramesh from Saroor Nagar in Rangareddy district.

The accused were charged under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1997. On Thursday, the suspects were produced in court, where they were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, as confirmed by Range Officer Guru Prasad.

The Amrabad Tiger Reserve, known for its rich wildlife, is one of the crucial conservation areas in Telangana. The arrest of the six poachers is part of the ongoing efforts by forest authorities to crack down on illegal hunting activities and ensure the protection of wildlife in the region.
