HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old software employee was found dead in suspicious circumstances in Shamshiguda, KPHB Police Station limits, Hyderabad. The incident relates to Supriya Reddy, native of Nandipet in Mahbubnagar district. Her husband claimed it was a case of suicide, but her parents suspected foul play by him out of dowry harassment.

Supriya Reddy married M. Raghavendra Reddy, son of Ramireddy from Lakshmireddypally in Devarakadra mandal, Mahbubnagar, in March this year. According to her parents, they had given Rs 50 lakh in cash and 50 tolas of gold jewellery as dowry. After marriage, the couple shifted to Hyderabad, where both are working as a software employee and are staying in Shamshiguda.

But troubles allegedly started within a few months of the marriage. Raghavendra had allegedly coerced Supriya into further dowry asking her to bring three acres of land from her parents and to deposit her salary in his account. He continued to oblige this demand which led to fights often between the duo.

Supriya, though, had reportedly confided in her parents multiple times about her distress after claiming she could not stand the harassment. Her parents tried intervening in the matter, and Supriya's mother told her to stay strong. When her parents confronted Raghavendra, he allegedly assaulted his wife and her mother.

On 11 October, Supriya called her parents and informed them that she cannot stay in the marital house and intended to come back to the house of her parents. Later that night, neighbours informed Buchireddy and Kavitha that Supriya died by hanging. Raghavendra allegedly was at work that time.

Disturbed by the news, Supriya's parents rushed to KPHB police station on the same night. Suspecting the timeline, they alleged that her daughter had called them barely hours back before such a shabby incident. They further alleged that her son-in-law had enacted the entire scene to portray it as a case of suicide.

The police have registered the case as suspicious death and are investigating.
