Techie who stole two luxury cars in Hyderabad arrested; vehicles seized

HYDERABAD: The Gachibowli Police, along with Madhapur CCS sleuths, on Friday arrested a techie for stealing two luxury cars in two separate thefts. The accused was apprehended from the parking space of Sheraton Hotel in Gachibowli and one of the stolen cars, a BMW Z4, was seized from there. In the subsequent raid on his house, another stolen car, a BMW X5 was recovered even as his mobile phone was also confiscated.
Disclosing the details of the case to the media at her office here, Madhapur DCP K Shilpavalli said that the accused, identified as Baireddy Arun Reddy (29), was a website developer. He is a resident of TNGOs Colony in Gachibowli of Serilingampally Mandal. According to the DCP, the accused first stole the BMW X5 variant car from Zero-40 pub in Gachibowli in May 2022.
The tricked an unsuspecting woman to steal the second car, a BMW Z4 variant, on June 24, 2023. When the woman arrived for the Badshah musical event at Boulder Hills, he posed as a valet parking person to take her car before stealing it, the DCP said.
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Shilpavalli said that Arun Reddy stole these luxury cars from busy parking lots by tricking the owners into handing over their vehicles to him in the guise of valet parking. After the car owners handed their vehicles to him, the accused would ask them to enter the details of the car on a fake web page created on his phone. After gathering the data, Arun Reddy would flee the spot with the stolen luxury cars and hide them in unidentified locations.
Later, he used those cars by changing their number plates, the DCP informed.
