Three members of Chittoor family die by suicide due to online betting debts

CHITTOOR: Three members of a family in Chittoor district died by suicide, unable to cope with mounting debts stemming from online betting.

The incident occurred in G.D. Nellore village, where Dinesh, a young man struggling with a betting addiction, led his family into financial turmoil.

Dinesh had accumulated substantial debt due to his ongoing involvement in online betting. About a year ago, he sold their residential plot in a desperate attempt to clear some of the debts. Despite this, his habit persisted, leading to even greater financial instability. Recently, he tried to take out a loan against their home, but his financial troubles only deepened, leaving no way out.

On Friday, Dinesh, along with his father Nagarajula Reddy, mother Jayanti, and sister Sunitha, consumed pesticide at their residence. Tragically, Nagarajula Reddy, Jayanti, and Sunitha did not survive, while Dinesh was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Chittoor police are investigating the case.
