Tragic end to birthday joyride; One killed as car jumps into canal in AP

BHIMAVARAM: A birthday celebration turned tragic for a group of people after their car fell in a canal following a crash. One person was killed and four others were injured in the incident. The mishap occurred on the Juvvalapalem road in Bhimavaram of West Godavari district on Monday. The deceased was identified as Vijayendra Varma (32). Two out of four injured persons were reported to be in critical condition.

As per information, five friends were out on a joyride in a car as part of a birthday celebration. Things turned fatal when the car crashed into a tree near the Alluri Sitaramaraju statue and, under its impact, plunged into the wayside canal on Juvvalapalem road.

While calling it a case of overspeeding, the police suspect that the victims were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The police registered a case and are investigating further.
