ANANTAPUR: In a dreadful incident in Tadipatri of Anantapur district, three persons sustained burns after an alcohol addict set his brother and sister-in-law on fire. The shocking attack occurred when Rameshwar Reddy, who was reprimanded by the couple for being a chronic alcoholic, poured petrol on them and set them on fire. A young woman, who was sleeping nearby, also suffered burns in the horrifying incident.
The incident took place at Srinidhi Nalla Bandala Factory situated on Dhotipur Road in Tadipatri. The couple, Nallapureddy and Saraswati, worked as labourers at the factory and had chosen to spend the night on the premises. Another factory worker, Poojita, too was sleeping on a cot nearby.
At approximately 11:30 pm. Nallapureddy's brother Rameshwar Reddy poured petrol on the couple. Even as Saraswati questioned him, the assailant set them ablaze and fled the scene. Poojita, who was sleeping nearby, also caught fire, resulting in burn injuries to her hands.
Both Nallapureddy and Saraswati suffered severe burn injuries in the incident. Poojita was also rushed to the hospital for treatment. In their statement, the couple revealed that they had reprimanded Rameshwar Reddy, Nallapureddy brother, two days prior to the incident urging him to change his behavior and curb his alcohol addiction. Refusing to take the wise counsel, Rameshwar Reddy reportedly resorted to this vengeful act.
Following a complaint filed by the victims, the local police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for Rameshwar Reddy, the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
