Centre fixed minimum age for school admission at 6 yrs

HYDERABAD: The Union Government has asked all States and Union Territories to ensure the minimum age for admission into schools is 6 years.

In a circular, the Ministry of Education on February 15 urged the States/Union Territories: “To align the age of admission as per the provision contained in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Right of Children to Free aThe Union Government made it mandatory that minimum age for admission into schools is 6 years.nd Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 and ensure admission to Grade-l at the age of 6+ year.

“The session 2024-25 is soon to begin when new admissions will take place. It is expected that the age in your State/UT has now been aligned to 6+ for admission to Grade-1, accordingly.”
