HYDERABAD: Responding to the ongoing protest by the students of Nizam College, Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao on Tuesday asked Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy to intervene in the issue and resolve it.
He also stated that the situation appeared to be unwarranted while adding that a girls hostel was built and handed over to the college at the students' request.
The Nizam College students, who have been agitating for a few days demanding accommodation of undergraduate girl students in the newly constructed hostel block, held a silent protest in front of the college on Tuesday.
The protesters alleged that though the new hostel building for girl students was officially inaugurated in March, the college administration did not allot the new hostel for girl students of undergraduate courses.
The students claimed that approximately 500 students, who are in need of accommodation in the college hostel, were forced to live in private residential facilities by paying huge rents.
The students further claimed that despite several requests, complaints and representations, the college officials concerned remained unmoved. The students decided to continue their protest until their demands are met.
