556 booked for drunk driving in Rachakonda limits

HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda traffic police on Monday produced 110 drunk driving offenders before a court which sentenced one of them to a three-day community service. A fine of Rs 2,34,500 was imposed on the rest of the offenders.

In all, 78 cases were booked during a special drive in all traffic police stations of the Rachakonda Commissionerate on Monday night. Special drives were also being conducted along various routes in Choutuppal and Narayanpur within the Rachakonda city limits. A total of 556 drunken driving (DD) cases were booked in the last one week.

According to the Rachakonda traffic police , some of the offenders who were caught in special drives tried to obstruct the traffic police from discharging their duties in various ways in an attempt to escape from cases.

Strict legal action will be taken against such offenders, the Rachakonda traffic police have warned while have appealing to people to cooperate with them during the special drives.
