Biometrics faked to draw labour salaries, GHMC staff held

HYDERABAD: Huge amounts were withdrawn from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) using fake fingerprints of non-working staff by three sanitary field assistants.
The Central Zone task force police arrested three sanitary assistants on Thursday.
According to the police, three sanitary assistants used to mark attendance of sanitary labourers and claim their salaries.
On credible information, the sleuths of Commissioner's Task Force, Central Zone Team, apprehended the three sanitary field assistants in the limits of Abid Road and Chaderghat police stations.
Maddi Venkat Reddy, S.F.A of Goshamahal Circle – XIV; Masku Laxmi Narsimha, S.F.A, Malakpet Circle-IV; Kashamoni Venkatesh, S. F.A, Malakpet Circle-IV were arrested. The police seized 43 fingerprints/thumb impressions, three biometric attendance machines from them.
The three SFAs were marking the attendance of 43 sanitary workers, working under them whenever they were absent, by preparing fake fingerprints/thumb impressions. The accused watched YouTube and using M-seal, dendrite glue/Fevicol, wax for faking the fingerprints and thumb impressions. They allegedly began collecting money from the workers at the time of their salaries.
As per their confession statements, three to four workers used to abstain every day from the sanitation work in each shift causing loss to the Government exchequer. The amounts drawn accounted for Rs. 74.73 crore annually.
The three accused persons, along with seized material handed over to the police.
