Delhi liquor scam: CBI begins examination of TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha
The CBI began its examination of TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha at her residence in Hyderabad in connection with the Delhi liquor scam
HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday began its examination of TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha at her residence in Hyderabad in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. A team of six CBI officials including a few women officers arrived in three vehicles at the MLC's house in Banjara Hills from the CBI guest house and began their examination at around 11 am.
Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), is being examined as a witness in the case and accordingly, the CBI has earlier served a notice under Section 160 CrPC for this purpose. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at her residence to facilitate the examination.
A room on the ground floor of Kavitha's residence has been readied specifically for this purpose. The CBI sleuths are expected to seek information from Kavitha, based on a questionnaire in connection with the case. It is also anticipated that a formal request would likely be made to the CBI to examine the MLC in the presence of her advocate. On Sunday, the CBI officials may confine themselves to oral examination.
The CBI had earlier summoned Kavitha for examination on December 6 but the MLC sought deferment to anywhere between December 11 and 15, citing her busy schedule. She also sought to be examined at her residence instead of the CBI office in Hyderabad besides asking for the copies of the chargesheet and the FIR.
Agreeing to Kavitha's request, the CBI has written to her recently informing her about the examination at 11 am on December 11.
The police put up barricades on the roads connecting to the MLC's residence to restrict movement of people to the place. Until Sunday, Kavitha has been receiving a steady stream of TRS leaders, activists and followers who expressed their solidarity with her. A large number of flexi banners sprang up in her support in the vicinity of her residence in Banjara Hills. Some of them screamed with the slogans 'Daughter of Fighter' and 'We are with you Kavithakka'.
