HYDERABAD: Former India captain and Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Mohammed Azharuddin was under the cloud once again on Monday. A few former functionaries of the HCA lodged a complaint with the police seeking criminal proceedings against Azharuddin for allegedly extending his tenure unilaterally after its expiry.
HCA former president G Vinod, former secretary Seshu Narayan and ex-member Chitti Sridhar Babu met Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat at his office on Monday and handed over their complaint to him.
The former office-bearers alleged that Azharuddin had been acting in complete violation of the rules. They claimed that the former India captain's tenure as HCA president ended on September 26. "Despite the expiry of his tenure, Azhar misled the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the EC Committee by creating fake documents in this regard. In utter disregard for the regulations, he has unilaterally extended his tenure as HCA president all by himself and without consulting anyone," they said in their complaint.
They claimed that Azhar wanted to somehow attend the BCCI AGM (annual general body meeting on October 18 and hence arbitrarily extended his own tenure flouting the rules. In their complaint given to Mahesh Bhagwat, they sought criminal proceedings under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the former India captain.
