Circle Inspector Padma at the Cyber Crime Police Station recorded Sunil Kanugolu's statement.
HYDERABAD: Sunil Kanugolu, a Congress task force member and political strategist, who was initially not inclined to attend the Hyderabad police questioning citing health reasons, eventually appeared at the Cyber crime police station on Monday. He was summoned for questioning in connection with the Congress war room case.
Circle Inspector Padma at the Cyber Crime Police Station recorded Sunil Kanugolu's statement. The Telangana High Court on January 3, 2023, ordered the political strategist to appear before the Hyderabad police in connection with the case of political memes circulated on social media targeting the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Sunil Kanugolu and three other Congress task force members were earlier arrested by the Cyberabad police for their alleged role in the making of the memes deriding Chief Minister KCR and the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police conducted the raid on the Congress war room after filing an FIR in the matter. They also confiscated multiple mobile phones, laptops and other equipment used by the Kanugolu’s team at their city office. The police claimed that they had received numerous complaints about misinformation and nasty comments being uploaded from IP addresses associated with Kanugolu's office.
