Hyderabad: Raja Singh, a Telangana BJP MLA has threatened to set Munawar Faruqui's stand-up comedy show's venue on fire if it takes place in Hyderabad. Moreover, he has urged the police and the Telangana administration to prohibit Faruqui from performing in Hyderabad.
In a video message posted on social media on Thursday, Raja Singh asserted that if Munawar's event was permitted in Hyderabad, it would be openly opposed. If the organisers backed them, they would suffer major consequences, he added. He threatened the theatre management, saying that the venue would be set on fire if his performance was held there.
In a video statement, the BJP MLA asserted that if the show took place in the city, the stand-up comedian would learn a lesson for insulting Lord Ram. The comedian, according to him, insulted Hindus with his remarks about their gods.
Munawar Faruqui is scheduled to perform in Hyderabad on August 20,2022. He turned to Instagram to announce his forthcoming event in Hyderabad, "Dongri to Nowhere," the venue of which has yet to be decided.
This is not the first time Munawar's event has been cancelled in Hyderabad. Faruqui's show Dhandho, which was supposed to be hosted on January 9, 2022, was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Telangana minister K T Rama Rao earlier invited stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui to perform in Hyderabad in December 2021 after Bengaluru police previously prevented him from doing so due to potential law and order issues and protests from right-wing groups.
