Punjagutta Police seize Rs 70 lakh cash, ABVP man among two arrested
The Panjagutta Police have seized Rs 70 lakhs of unaccounted money and arrested two persons during a vehicle check carried out within their police station limits
HYDERABAD: The Panjagutta Police have seized Rs 70 lakhs of unaccounted money and arrested two persons during a vehicle check carried out within their police station limits. Some reports claimed that one of the arrested was a senior functionary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The accused were commuting towards Somajiguda when they were intercepted at Panjagutta. They were arrested as they reportedly failed to show necessary receipts and documents for the cash amid suspicions that the money was accessed from the illegal hawala route.
The latest haul of unaccounted cash comes right ahead of the polling for a by-election to the Munugode Assembly constituency on November 3. The Telangana police, in a series of interceptions, have been seizing unaccounted cash in various parts in the last few days, sparking suspicions that they were destined to be distributed among the voters of Munugode to influence the by-election there.
Ministers' vehicles checked ahead of Munugode by-elections
Meanwhile, the Telangana police have intensified their drive to check all vehicles ahead of the Munugode by-election. In strict enforcement of their drive, they even checked the vehicles of a few Telangana Ministers on Friday. Minister for law and Endowments Allola Indrakaran Reddy's vehicle was stopped and thoroughly checked near Samsthan Narayanapur in Nalgonda district.
Similar experience was also faced by Telangana Minister for State Roads and Buildings Vemula Prashanth Reddy. His vehicle was inspected near Toopranpet before he was allowed to go on his onward journey. Telangana Consumer Affairs Minister Gangula Kamalkar's vehicle was inspected twice at different places – Choutuppal and Samsthan Narayanapur – by the police.
